Associate Program Manager of Public Health IT Pathways

Carole has sixteen years of experience in healthcare education, including experience as program chair for Health Information Technology (HIT) programs and teaching for associate and bachelor HIT, Health Information Management (HIM), health administration, medical assisting, and nursing programs at private colleges and with community college programs. Carole also has developed curriculum, has been a practicum coordinator, and has managed the CAHIIM accreditation of these programs. Classes taught have included introduction to HIM, healthcare administration finance, legal aspects of healthcare, ICD-10-CM/PCS coding, HCPCS/CPT coding, introduction to EHR, introduction to HIM technology, HIPAA privacy & security, healthcare compliance, healthcare statistics, introduction to informatics for nursing, healthcare reimbursement, and she used simulated EHR and coding systems for classes.

Carole has decades of experience in healthcare as manager and director of hospital Health Information Management (HIM) departments, medical coder, cancer registrar, as well as earlier positions as a medical assistant, medical transcriber, insurance claims processor, and burn registrar. This experience includes leading implementation of electronic health record (EHR), HIPAA patient confidentiality, medical coding and reimbursement for hospital inpatients, hospital accreditation processes, and training staff and providers on computer systems and updates.

Carole earned a master’s degree in Health Information Management, with a certificate in Healthcare Informatics, from The College of St. Scholastica, and bachelor degree in Health Information Administration from Loma Linda University.  She holds certifications as Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Oncology Data Specialist (ODS), and AHIMA Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer. Carole is a member of American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), member and volunteer of California Health Information Association (CHIA), as well as member of Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and National Cancer Registry Association.
