Now working as a Peer Support Specialist for two years with the Mental Health Association of San Mateo County, David seeks to make a difference in the lives of others by offering support in the ways that he received it when he needed it most. Having experienced homelessness and depression, David has a passion for extending compassion and support that led him to research Peer Support Specialist programs. When David found Futuro Health’s program, he was excited by the program’s capacity to accommodate his schedule and the comprehensive support Futuro Health Scholars receive.

Born and raised in the Philippines, Shiela grew up with encouragement from her grandmother to move to the United States and pursue a career in nursing. When Shiela had a baby unexpectedly, she put her dreams of becoming a nurse on hold so she could focus on working to support her child. In 2022, Shiela was finally able to go back to school to pursue her career aspirations and began her LVN program with Futuro Health’s support. Shiela proudly graduated with honors as valedictorian with the credential that she needs in order to pursue her lifelong dream to become an RN. “Futuro Health was really supportive all throughout the program. They don’t just give you the program. They’re also there for you to make sure you’re physically and emotionally good throughout the program.”
