Five Years Strong: Celebrating the Culture We’ve Built Together

This year, Futuro Health is celebrating five years of impact and growth. Along the way, we have reached exciting milestones, including partnering with Health Net to strengthen rural critical staffing, representing our work at the G7 Canada Summit, and seeing our Futuro Health Scholars featured in the BBC’s global series Caring with Courage.

We’ve also refreshed our values and share them with you here.

Our Latest Blog: Connected by Purpose: How We Built a Culture of Belonging from Miles Apart

By: Van Ton-Quinlivan, CEO, Futuro Health

Connected by Purpose

Word cloud from unedited responses to a survey of Futuro Health’s recent all-staff gathering in LA.

At a time when organizational leaders are wringing their hands over the future of remote work, our Futuro Health team has built something extraordinary — a culture that’s warm, inclusive, mission-driven, and deeply authentic, all without physical offices. This internal culture matters deeply, because it shows up in how we support the thousands of Futuro Health Scholars we serve — adults across a wide-range of communities  who attend tuition-free to earn the credentials and qualifications they need to begin or advance their careers in healthcare.

After our recent in-person all-staff gathering in Los Angeles, we asked team members a follow-up simple survey question: “What do you love most about Futuro Health’s culture?”  The anonymized answers poured in, and they were nothing short of inspiring for me as the CEO to read.

Katherin V.

Futuro Health Scholar
Medical Assistant Program

Since she was young, Katherin has always wanted to be a medical examiner, a role she first saw in action on the procedural dramas she grew up watching with her grandmother.

Growing up in Miami, Florida, Katherin has been working both outside the home and as a caretaker to her mother and grandmother since she was fourteen years old. When Katherin decided to launch a career in healthcare, she sought a debt-free option, and when she found Futuro Health, she knew it was the right choice for her. Many of Katherin’s friends are interested in a career in healthcare, and she is eager to tell them about Futuro Health’s tuition-free training, so they too can bring their unique and important perspectives to healthcare. “I’m feeling far more hopeful, far more optimistic about my future, and I’m very grateful to Futuro Health to give me this opportunity to continue pursuing my career in healthcare.”

Having experienced homelessness and depression, David has a passion for extending compassion and support that led him to research Peer Support Specialist programs. When David found Futuro Health’s program, he was excited by the program’s capacity to accommodate his schedule and the comprehensive support Futuro Health Scholars receive. His employer, Jessica Abbott, at the Mental Health Association of San Mateo County noticed David’s skills flourishing after completing the Peer Support Specialist Program with Futuro Health. “Based on my experience, I would definitely hire Futuro Health Scholars. Corinne Eldridge, President and CEO of the Center for Caregiver Advancement

Episode #112: Why In-Home Caregivers Need Training

“Caregivers come to this work because they have a big heart, but having a big heart doesn't mean that they are prepared to do what is a both a mentally and physically taxing job,” says Corinne Eldridge, president and chief executive officer of the Center for Caregiver Advancement. That’s where CCA’s training programs come in, which have upskilled more than 70,000 in-home caregivers in the last 25 years in courses that cover the essentials of doing the job as well as managing a variety of specific conditions such as diabetes, autism, and heart disease. As Eldridge explains to Futuro Health CEO Van Ton-Quinlivan, CCA has formed a number of academic partnerships so that its trainings can be informed by research and data analysis. For instance, a recent study on the efficacy of online training for workers caring for people with Alzheimer’s and related dementias showed that it improved knowledge and caregiving skills, and also boosted self-efficacy in managing symptoms. Beyond developing relevant job skills, Eldridge sees training as a critical component in creating jobs that will attract and retain workers. “Access to training makes you feel more confident in your work and actually keeps you in the work because you have something to look forward to and a way to advance.” In this valuable discussion on WorkforceRx, you’ll also learn about the need for culturally and linguistically competent caregivers, the complexities of providing care to family members, and why Eldridge thinks these challenging times call for creativity.
